Project: Bespoke Reception Desk with Height-Adjustable Work Area

 

YBP Group was entrusted with a large-scale office refurbishment for Stada, involving the manufacture of bespoke seating, tables, a bar area, kitchenette, meeting pod seating, and mobile buffet seating. This project required close collaboration with Stada’s design team to bring their vision to life while ensuring the durability and functionality of the furniture. We successfully delivered a modern, stylish, and functional office space that met all of the client’s needs.

Initial Consultation & Design Collaboration

Stada provided the initial designs, which included a selection of bespoke seating areas, meeting pod seating, tables, and other essential office features. We worked closely with the design team to ensure that the products would be both aesthetically pleasing and durable for the long term. One key challenge arose with some of the radius parts of the design. The original design featured tight curves, which raised concerns about the laminate’s ability to withstand the pressure over time. We collaborated with the client and design team to slightly enlarge the radius to ensure that the laminate would have a longer lifespan, enhancing both its appearance and functionality.

 

Material Selection & Manufacturing Process

For this project, we selected a range of high-quality materials that offered both durability and aesthetics:

  • MFC and MDF for the structural elements of the furniture
  • Laminate for the surfaces, providing a sleek, modern look
  • Bendi ply to form the curves on the seating
  • Glass partitions to enhance the workspace’s open feel while providing privacy
  • Spray paint for the waterfall-edged tables, adding a unique touch
  • Solid surface for the premium reception desk
  • Leather upholstery for the seating, ensuring both comfort and elegance

We used button fixings to secure the bar area and ensure that the LEDs could be serviced or replaced in the future. This careful attention to detail ensures that the furniture remains functional for years to come.

 

Timeline & Delivery

The project was completed within 12 weeks, with careful attention paid to meeting crucial deadlines. The production schedule was meticulously planned, as certain elements of the project had to be installed before others could be completed. In particular, the flooring team was waiting for us to finish our work, so a strict timeline was adhered to in order to avoid any delays. The majority of the furniture was manufactured and finished in our workshop, with the bar and kitchenette being the only components requiring on-site fitting.

The project was delivered in multiple stages, with the majority of the units being fully built up before delivery. This pre-assembly allowed for an efficient installation process, where the products were simply placed in position and mechanically fixed into place.

 

Challenges & Solutions

The primary challenge of this project was coordinating with other trades to ensure that the space was ready for our installation. Although this was not an issue with the design or manufacturing itself, it required careful planning to ensure that our pieces could be delivered and installed at the right time.

Another challenge was the slight adjustments to the radius of the seating curves, which required careful recalculation and re-manufacturing. We were able to adjust these dimensions to ensure the laminate would be structurally sound without compromising the overall design vision.
