Evapo, a leading UK retail chain specialising in vape products, approached YBP Group to manufacture bespoke furniture for their growing network of stores. As the company continues its rapid expansion with over 50 locations nationwide, they required custom-made display units and fixtures that could be replicated across multiple stores, each with its own unique size and layout. We have partnered with Evapo to deliver consistent, high-quality fit-outs that align with their brand’s vision and provide an inviting, functional space for their customers.

 

Initial Consultation & Design Collaboration

Evapo provided the initial design concept, and after our team crafted samples and gained approval, the design remained consistent for all future stores. The goal was to produce a scalable design that could adapt to different shop sizes while maintaining a premium feel throughout. The only notable change was sourcing alternative materials during the COVID-19 pandemic to help mitigate rising costs. Once the design was set, we proceeded with manufacturing to the agreed specifications.

 

Material Selection & Manufacturing Process

To meet the durability requirements of a busy retail environment while ensuring an attractive and professional finish, we selected a combination of materials:

  • MDF and MFC for the main structures and units
  • Tulip Wood for table legs
  • Glass for display doors
  • LEDs for lighting, adding impact to products on display
  • Lacquer and White Gloss Paint for the finished look and durability
  • Furniture Grade Plywood for added strength and longevity

These materials were chosen not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their ability to withstand the wear and tear of a high-traffic retail environment.

 

Production & Stock Management

To ensure Evapo could meet the demands of their fast-paced retail expansion, we developed a streamlined process that involved maintaining a stock of two standard shop fit-outs in our warehouse at all times. This ensures that whenever a new property becomes available, we can act quickly to fit out the store with minimal delay. Once a fit-out is dispatched for a shop, we replace the stock within four weeks to ensure that we are always ready for the next call-off.

The key to this project’s success has been a well-managed, structured production timeline that allows us to respond to Evapo’s needs promptly and efficiently.

 

Timeline & Delivery

The process begins with regular communication to plan the production timeline in line with Evapo’s store openings. Once a shop’s fit-out is ready, the furniture is delivered directly to the site, where our team meets the installation crew. The wall-mounted units are the only components requiring installation, and we use split battens to ensure a secure and professional finish. Our careful planning ensures a smooth delivery and installation process that is completed on time.

 

Challenges & Solutions

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the cost of raw materials saw a significant increase, affecting the overall project cost. To overcome this, we sourced an alternative material with similar properties, which enabled us to maintain the desired aesthetic without compromising on quality. We also introduced a special edging tape to match the original design’s finish, which helped reduce material costs by an average of 8% per shop. This solution provided great value to the client while maintaining the high standard of the fit-out.

 

Outcome & Client Satisfaction

The fit-outs have been successfully installed across multiple stores nationwide, all of which are still functioning as well as the day they were installed. The relationship with Evapo has grown stronger over time, and we have completed over 50 shops to date. The client is extremely satisfied with our ability to consistently meet their needs and deliver high-quality, durable, and attractive shop fittings on time.
